(2016) Marginal Arts Festival

The first annual Marginal Arts Festival was held at venues throughout Summerland on the Labour Day long weekend, September 1-3, 2016.

We chose the name "Marginal" Arts Festival for several reasons, again inspired by George Ryga:

  • Ryga championed those who are marginalized by society.
  • Ryga was marginalized as an artist.
  • Many exciting artists, including those in our own community, work
on the fringes.
  • Fringe festivals are growing in popularity.

This year we're simplifying our festival name to the Ryga Festival.

We are hoping to grow modestly, and again celebrate with local musicians, stimulating literary events, and not-to-be-missed reminiscences by Ryga's colleagues and friends.
