HEATHER DAVIES:  The Building Blocks of Acting, September 1 & 3, 2016

This fun, supportive class will introduce or refresh the building blocks of acting and stagecraft (including scene structure) by getting on our feet and playing. Inspired by a broad range of theatre approaches,  we’ll explore topics including ‘acting and reacting’, ‘active listening’, ‘accepting and building’, playing with imagery, discovering the character, playing with arguments and acting with honesty.  This 2-session workshop is for ages 16 & up who are interested in acting, writing or directing.

Heather Davies is a professional, award-winning director, teacher and writer with extensive work experience in the UK, US and Canada. Equally comfortable with classics, new writing and musical theatre, Heather’s directorial credits span across North America, the UK and Germany. Filling a variety of directorial roles, Heather has worked with an impressive list of theatre companies that includes: the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Grand Theatre, and the Stratford Festival among others. Heather trained at Ryerson University, Webber Douglas Academy (UK), and York University where she received her MFA in Theatre. After residing in the UK for twenty years, Heather returned to Canada in 2007 and now calls Stratford, Ontario home. She is currently adapting George Ryga’s novel, Night Desk for the stage.
